February 7, 2024 | BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - The 2024 Primary is coming up, and Judge Jerrell Wise, the current 472nd district judge of the state of Texas, is running again for the position.
Wise says he is running for the judgeship because he wants to assist the people of Brazos County.
“I’m here to serve. I served my state for eight years as a law enforcement officer, I served the City of Bryan for two years as the municipal court judge. And when Governor Abbott called and said he wanted me to serve for the 472nd district court, I said yes. And with that I told him I would run for re-election for as long as the people of Brazos County would have me,” he said.
Wise says that his experience as a judge is what makes him the best candidate for the job.
“Not only am I an experienced judge, I’ve been in the position since November, and then before that the municipal court judge for two years, but I’m also experienced in the kind of law that the 472nd actually hears,” he said.
Wise said that good character and loyalty to the law are priorities he has for the job.
“It is always my ultimate priority to follow the law. I believe we should act justly, love mercy and always walk in humility. And so that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to follow the law, I’m going to extend mercy where it’s appropriate and I’m going to always remember that I’m a man under authority and therefore I should walk humbly,” he said.

Wise thanked Brazos County state representatives John Raney and Kyle Kacal for including in the legislation creating the 472nd, language that most cases will involve civil matters.
Wise will preside over his first trial November 13th in the old 85th district courtroom, which is where he tried his first case as a lawyer in Brazos County.

September 7, 2023 | BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas (KRHD) — Brazos County is growing and getting a new District Court, with a judge appointed by Gov. Abbott. The new judge, however, is already a familiar face in Bryan courts.
Judge George Jerrell Wise is currently a presiding judge for the city of Bryan.
“In my new position as the District judge for the 472nd district court here in Brazos county, I'm going to be primarily a civil judge,” Wise said.
Starting Nov. 1, he will trade in one bench for another, as the judge of the newly formed 472nd district. Instead of judging city matters, he will now preside [over] a state court.
He says his background in civil law will give him a leg up.
“Primarily, our district judges have come from strong criminal backgrounds," Wise said.
"What I really want to do, and the reason I'm very passionate about taking this bench, is because we're now going to give our civil law attorneys a bench that is presided over by a judge who knows civil law, and has experience in civil law.”
